#ThrowbackThursday Langham 2021

This #ThrowbackThursday we are considering something slightly different. Although Colchester was a wonderful Roman stronghold, not all of what we find is Roman! In fact, a lot of the time when we excavate we do not find anything of archaeological significance at all 😪

Back in 2021 we carried out an excavation at Langham, north-east of Colchester, as the area was known to have cropmarks and isolated prehistoric find spots👀

Although excavation revealed little of archaeological significance, some postmedieval and modern features were identified such as a field boundary ditch and land drain, and modern service trenches, that were likely associated with the Boxted World War II airbase.

Sites like this may not be earth shattering, but are important to record for the archaeological record to extend our understanding of the local area!🎉
