The Colchester Historic Buildings Group
The Historic Buildings Group came together to prepare a list of buildings in Colchester for consideration by Colchester Borough Council as the basis for a local list of historic buildings worthy of long term preservation. The list was accepted and it is now, like others like it, across the country it is described as a local list (as opposed to buildings that are on the national list). The group no longer exists, it’s members were:
Leigh Alston:
An experienced historic buildings specialist.
James Bettley:
An architectural historian and author of the revised and enlarged Pevsner’s Essex.
Philip Crummy:
The Director of the Colchester Archaeological Trust since 1971.
Patrick Denney:
A local historian and author specialising in 19th- and 20th-century Colchester
Janet Fulford:
A retired architect.
Andrew Phillips:
A local historian, university lecturer, facilitator of the Colchester Recalled oral history project, and author.
Richard Shackle:
A historic building specialist.
Dave Stenning:
A former historic buildings and planning specialist with Essex County Council and Colchester Borough Council.
