Roman Circus House has central heating!

Today (23rd December), the Trust had heating engineers at Roman Circus House, and – after a long and tortuous saga over many months – the central heating system was switched on! This is the first time in history that the Trust has had real central heating, in any of our buildings, and the first time that Roman Circus House has had central heating.

The Trust’s plumbers and heating engineers, H. & E. Installations – especially Dave and Aaron – have worked hard to remove the old heaters at Roman Circus House and install our new heating system, with two new boilers (one on each floor), and with more radiators. Roman Circus House is a large building (hence the two boilers) with quite a complicated layout, and the team have fitted miles of pipework all over it; through walls and up and down walls and round corners. All we needed was for the gas supply to be connected; unfortunately, the representative who came to connect the gas discovered that, actually, there was no gas supply… This was a great disappointment to all the Trust staff and volunteers at the beginning of the winter. Moreover, the gas supply might not reach the Trust for another year! Not to be deterred, we bought a tank of gas instead so that we could have central heating this year, and the heating engineers installed two even newer, dual-purpose boilers. And so, today, at last, the central heating system was switched on. This is a major development for all the people who work here and also for visitors to the circus centre – and just in time for the Christmas holiday!

It’s warming up at Roman Circus House…
