#ExploreYourArchive – Hobbies

Today, for #EYAHobbies, we will remember the excavation of the ‘Doctor’s Grave’ in Stanway.

Back in 1996, the grave was excavated at Stanway Quarry. We were astounded by the remarkable medical instruments alongside the human remains. However, also in the grave were 26 blue and white glass counters, arranged in what appears to be a Roman era board game.

Possibly similar the to modern draughts or chess, this shows that the people of the past had their hobbies too!
