big news, big day: Roman circus interpretation centre opens on the 24th August!

Today (3rd August), we are very pleased to announce the news that we’ve all been waiting for – the Trust will be opening our Roman circus interpretation centre to visitors on Saturday 24th August! We are inviting all our generous donors and volunteers to come to Roman Circus House on the 24th to see our roll of honour being unveiled: this is a list of the names of all the people who have donated or contributed to the creation of the interpretation centre. Then – at 12.30pm – we will throw our doors open to visitors!

We have been working hard over the past few months, preparing the building in readiness for the displays. The cafe will be finished and operational, but there is still a lot of work to do on the displays. It’s going to take until next year to complete everything that we have planned – although there will be information about the circus from Day One, including what there is to see outside. Particularly important in this respect will be our current excavation on part of the circus site, in front of our building, which can be viewed from the 24th August onwards (until further notice).

The centre (including the cafe) will be open from the 24th on Mondays to Saturdays, 10.00am to 4.00pm. There are no plans at the moment to open on Sundays. We may close in the winter on Saturdays if there is little demand, although the centre should always be open Monday to Fridays regardless, except possibly for bank holidays during the winter.

If you want to try our great coffee sooner, then the cafe will actually be open from Saturday 17th August, so that we can get in a week’s practice…

We look forward to seeing you!
