#ArchiveAdventCalendar – Tree

For the #ArchiveAdventCalendar #Tree today we’re going to be talking about environmental archaeology. A recent CAT site near to Colchester produced very large quantities of charcoal which were sent for specialist identifications. The charcoal was predominately from the Prunus sp. genus (including cherry, sloe or plum) but also contained fragments of Fagus slyvatica L. (beech), Ulmus sp. (elm), Corylus avellana L. (hazel) and Pinus sylvestris/mugo (Scots/Mountain pine).
