Today (19th July) was the last day of the week of work experience which two Colchester school pupils, twin sisters Lilly and Poppy, undertook with the Trust at Roman Circus House. Poppy would like to be an archaeologist and Lilly would like to be a forensic anthropologist.
Lilly and Poppy are from the Philip Morant School where they are in Year 10. They said that they enjoyed their week with us and that some of it was even ‘really fun!’. They did pot washing, excavating the contents of a Roman cremation urn (including human bone fragments), and some excavating on our circus site in front of Roman Circus House (where they found animal bone and an oyster shell). They even unpacked the new chairs for our cafe. However, somehow they managed to not get involved in the massive painting and decorating project which our renovation volunteers are still engaged in…
At least the weather was good – but it can’t have been too bad working with archaeologists, as Lilly and Poppy are going to come back and help us later in the summer.
Many thanks to Lilly and Poppy for your help during the week, and we look forward to seeing you again!
