some images from the Roman circus centre and site opening day

Here are some images from the Trust’s opening day at Colchester Roman circus centre and site, yesterday (28th March).

Many thanks to everyone who helped or contributed and to all our visitors for coming along!

The images show Boudicca arriving in a replica Iron Age chariot drawn by Trust archaeologists; visitors at the opening ceremony; some Celts and Romans among the visitors; Trust director Philip with Boudicca; a performance by Jonathan of Colchester History Alive; three views of the new visitor walkway over the remains of part of the circus; one of our visitors trying on a Roman soldier’s accoutrements; visitors looking at archaeological finds in the marquee; in the cafe; the Roman food stall; our completed model of the circus; in the ‘chariot room’; and a view of Roman Circus House with the walkway in front.
