Roman circus super-model and re-opening of circus centre!

Today (30th June), Trust volunteer Shirley and her husband John came to Roman Circus House and spent several hours working on the super-model of the Roman circus and fixing it to its base. There is still some work to be done to finish the super-model, and the base, but it is now in its permanent home in our circus centre. In fact, it is so big that it couldn’t be removed from the building if we tried – all 4.5 metres of it. It now forms the central element in our display about the circus and it looks great. (We even celebrated the fixing of the super-model and ‘launched’ it, today, with some not-quite-champagne!)

We will be re-commencing full opening hours at the circus centre and site on Saturday 5th July, at 10.30am, with our cafe! We have completed more of our circus display and there is now more to come and see, on the circus site and in the centre: indoors, we have the circus super-model, and two video displays; outdoors, we have the new stumps of the circus starting-gates. So, from Saturday, the circus centre, circus site and cafe will be open Tuesday-Saturday, 10.30am-4.30pm. Entry is free. We look forward to seeing you!

Many thanks to Shirley and John for all their hard work in making the circus super-model.

The images show Shirley and John working on the circus super-model, surrounded by their tools and with the 3d-modelled circus on video in the background, and discussing minute details with Trust director Philip, at the circus centre today.
