recent Trust discoveries in ‘Current Archaeology’ magazine

This week, Current Archaeology sent us some complimentary copies of the April 2013 issue of their magazine current archaeology (vol. 24,  no. 1). The cover image is of the skull/reconstructed face of Richard III. The two top items in the news section of the magazine are about some of the Trust’s recent discoveries (pp 6-7, including illustrations). The first – ‘Ringfenced research’ – is about the Roman cemetery which we excavated at the Butt Road car-park site, and its remarkable ‘ring-fenced’ burial groups. The second – ‘Colchester’s burning insights’ – is about the even more remarkable bustum burial which we excavated at the Napier Road car-park site.

These two items were previously posted on the Current Archaeology web-site (on the 8th March), with minor differences, at www.archaeology.co.uk/articles/news/roman-colchester-burning-insights.htm and at www.archaeology.co.uk/articles/news/remarkable-ringfenced-burials-from-roman-colchester.htm

We posted an item about the two postings on this web-site at www.thecolchesterarchaeologist.co.uk/?p=3999 !

The image shows pages 6-7 of the current issue of the Current Archaeology magazine.
