Something a little different for you all today… ![]()
Work experience student Aimee has given us a little write up of her interpretation of a day at the races![]()

“It’s always amazed me how the charioteers and their horses manage it; I know they’re athletic, but 12 races in a single day exhausted me just watching them! Mind you, there’s a lot that goes into being a spectator; it’s not all just sitting back and relaxing. It’s not about which charioteers you support but about what faction they race for. Father supports the greens, and I wouldn’t want to be the one to tell him if any of us dared to support anyone else.
We saw a curse tablet someone had dropped on the ground after the second race, trying to sabotage our driver! It worked, too, since one of the charioteers on our team got ‘shipwrecked’ in the next race – that’s what we call it when another charioteer drives into somebody else’s wheels – and had to cut the reins around his waist to get to safety! Luckily no harm was done but you should have heard the reds cheering when he fell. You’d think all 8000 of us watching were reds, the noise they made! I’ll bet one of them inscribed that curse tablet – they’d probably just placed a wager they couldn’t afford to lose. Still, we managed to win 17 of the races, so not a bad turnout for the greens!”
