Today (14th May), there was an exciting step forward at Roman Circus House. The thoroughly swept floors of the four main ground-floor rooms – the circus interpretation centre/cafe and kitchen – were given an all-over layer of undercoat and then a layer of screed, and left to dry. The undercoat was of self-levelling latex. The base floor was just concrete, as the original high-quality, hard wood floorboards of the NAAFI’s public rooms had been removed before the Trust moved into the building. (There are some surviving boarded floors on the first floor.)
The next step will be the laying of the floor tiles…
The new floors are being done by Perry of local company Persha Carpets and Flooring, and his assistant Max.
The images show the large ground-floor room today, with Perry applying the undercoat and, later on, with both layers partially applied.
