#FindsFriday Roman Die

We’re dropping into your feeds with a quick one this #FindsFriday. This die was found during our 2018-2020 excavations at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester!

The die itself is made of bone and has a “ring and dot” motif and like a modern die the opposite sides equal seven. It was found in a later medieval robber trench, however dates to the Roman period!

This die and seventeen gaming counters are evidence of recreational activities taking place in the area
