#FindsFriday Nero coin

Bust side of coin

#FindsFriday back again so fast! This week we have a pretty swanky coin for you 💰

This is an As of Nero dated to AD54-68(!), which on the front has the bust of Nero.

The back of the coin depicts Nero walking right, wearing billowing robes and playing a lyre. The coin reads ‘PONTIF MAX TR POT IMP P P / SC’ which is translated as high priest, tribunician power, supreme commander (Imperator), father of the country.

Nero was an infamous ruler of the Roman Empire, in part due to his cruelty, but also because he ruled during a period of great change with important events such as Boudica’s revolt in Britain 🔥
