Colchester’s Roman circus attracts education volunteer

On Monday (11th November), a new volunteer joined the Trust team. Stefania is from Sassari in Sardinia, and she is a post-graduate student at the University of Sassari, which has given her a grant to work at the Trust for four months. Stefania is now the Trust’s education officer. She will create a learning strategy for schools at our circus interpretation centre and develop a programme of talks, workshops and activities around the Roman circus and the archaeology of Colchester, based on the National Curriculum, and also liaise with schools, colleges and teachers. She will then deliver talks, workshops and activities to school pupils and students, mainly at the circus interpretation centre, but she will visit schools as required.

Stefania is planning to write her final thesis on the Romans in Britain, with a focus on Colchester’s Roman circus, and she hopes to build a career in archaeology.

We would like to welcome Stefania to Roman Circus House and we hope that she enjoys her time here with the Trust.

The Roman circus interpretation centre is on the ground floor of the Trust’s building, Roman Circus House, with our offices above. The circus centre, site and excavation site are open to visitors on every weekday, 10.30am-4.30pm. Entry is free.

If you would like to contact Stefania about the circus education programme, then please email her at schools@catuk.org .

The Trust has a whole team of dedicated volunteers and we are extremely grateful to all our volunteers for their contribution to the circus centre and to the archaeology of Colchester.

The image shows Stefania at her desk in the upstairs office at Roman Circus House today.
