CAT ANNOUNCEMENT

With the warmest of wishes, today we officially announce the retirement of our Director, Philip Crummy.

Philip has provided Colchester Archaeological Trust with 53 years of devoted service, and has dedicated his life to unearthing and promoting Colchester’s archaeology. We have all benefited from his great wealth of knowledge, and he will be greatly missed by staff and volunteers alike.

At the helm of many seminal excavations in Colchester – Lion Walk, Culver Street and the Roman Circus to name a few – Philip has been a trailblazer for developing the understanding of the Roman legionary fortress in Camulodunum, as well as the later Roman town.

Philip’s retirement is our loss, but we wish him every success in pursuing his personal projects (which, if you know Philip, will likely be archaeology-related!). We are indebted to Philip for his contribution to our company, and to archaeology as a whole, and we will remain committed to championing Colchester’s archaeology, as he has always done.
