Happy Monday everybody! To get us all in the Christmas spirit this year we’re going to be taking part in the @ara_scotland #ArchiveAdventCalendar

Today our prompt is #Shopping so we thought we’d talk about the Lion Walk excavations from the 1970’s. The shopping precinct was named after a mosaic which was unearthed that depicts a walking lion

The site also uncovered part of the early Roman fortress and its outer defences, as well as later Roman streets and buildings, an Anglo-Saxon hut and post-Roman buildings. It’s definitely interesting what’s under your feet while out doing your Christmas shopping!
