Always horsing around, our site crew🐎

A few weeks ago one of our trainees Karl was lucky enough to excavate a complete Roman horse skeleton. In the Roman period horses had multiple uses including ‘noble’ horses for use in the circus and chariot racing, and common stock used as working animals, and as a means of transport. We see horse motifs depicted on Roman pottery and artefacts such as coins and jewellery!!

I wonder how important this horse was?👀
