a concrete development

Today (21st June), three cement lorries arrived at Roman Circus House and poured cement into the footings trenches of the Trust’s new storage building, to one side of Roman Circus House. Trust archaeologists Ben, Chris and Mark were there to level out the cement at the right depth. As archaeological contractors, the Trust has over 30 years’ experience of working in the construction industry, but the archaeologists are not usually involved in this stage of the construction process!

Also today, the joiner and the plasterer Bob were at Roman Circus House, working on some of the internal doors and the smaller ground-floor room respectively. It’s all happening at Roman Circus House, to get the circus interpretation centre ready for visitors.

Our new storage building isn’t quite Stonehenge, but it is the summer solstice today, and the day that Stonehenge is highlighted when thousands of people watch the sun rise at the ancient monument…

The images show one of the lorries in position; Trust archaeologists Ben and Chris at work; and the footings with Roman Cicus House in the background.
