WORK EXPERIENCE

🟢WORK EXPERIENCE🟢

During October half term holidays, college student Felix spent a week with us, learning the ins and outs of commercial archaeology:

“I’ve had a great time during my week long work placement experience with the Colchester Archaeological Trust, and I massively enjoyed all the work I did during the five days I was there🥳

Being apart of the archiving process was especially interesting as it gave me a good insight into the process of preparing artefacts and their journey from a site to a museum. I’ve really enjoyed being able to handle a number of artefacts from the local area and I feel lucky to have been able to take part in their archiving. Whether you’re marking individual artefacts, cleaning them or making sure all the boxes are ready to be deposited to a local museum, you really feel like you’re a part of a team and that you’re contributing to the preservation of Colchester’s and the local area’s history, but also England and the UK as a whole!

All the staff at CAT are super kind and helpful, and its been super interesting to talk to people and learn about what its like to work on and site as well as some of their experiences and interesting finds that they’ve uncovered! I decided to take part in the work experience program to learn more about what it is to be an archaeologist (it was a little less like Indiana Jones than I hoped) and now I’m seriously considering taking archaeology at university and even pursuing it as a career for the future!”

Thanks for all your hard work Felix, we hope to see you soon! 🤩
