by Megan Beale and Laura Pooley with contributions from Dr Matthew Loughton, Alec Wade, Laura Pooley and Lisa Gray
Summary
An archaeological excavation was carried out at 5 The Street, Sheering, Harlow, Essex, in advance of
construction of two detached dwellings. Sheering was first recorded in the Domesday Book, with a
medieval linear green and 16th- and 17th-century listed buildings nearby. An archaeological evaluation
on the development site in 2025 revealed two medieval pits. This excavation revealed the continuation
of a 15th-16th-century pit from the evaluation and several areas of modern disturbance.
