CAT Report 1828: summary
by Sarah Veasey
Summary
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on land at Alresford Hall, Ford Lane, Essex in
advance of the construction of an adventure play-park. The site is located adjacent to Alresford
Hall, a Grade II listed building, within an area of known cropmarks.
Following a phase of
evaluation work, a small excavation was carried out as well as several areas of monitoring. This
phase of work revealed an area that was sporadically inhabited from the Middle Bronze Age
until the early Roman period. Notable features include a possible linear trackway, ring-ditch and
a pit which produced an almost complete Bronze Age loomweight.
