As an educational charity, public outreach is at the forefront of everything we do. We are keen to teach as many people as possible about archaeology and Colchester’s Roman Circus, to help them better engage with the subject and their local area.

We offer a visit to the Roman Circus Visitor Centre for school groups (up to 40 pupils, with an ideal ratio 5 pupils per adult). This tends to last around 120 minutes, and includes a talk from a Roman lady about life in Roman Colchester, and the Roman Circus, a quiz, time for Q&As, free-time to explore the Centre, and a race at the Circus’ starting gates! Our presentation can be adapted to particular curriculum needs. Monday visits are ideal as the centre is closed to the public then, but groups are welcome every week day, but can take place during the rest of the week too.
from £150 plus VAT for a 2-hour session

Alongside school visits, we also welcome other local interest groups to the Roman Circus Centre. The Visitor Centre is available for hire out of opening hours. The large room can accommodate up to 60 people, has audio-visual facilities and light refreshments are available.

Colchester Archaeological Trust holds an annual ‘Archaeology Day’ in July at the Roman Circus Centre. This welcomes visitors to learn a little about archaeology through talks and activities for free. You may also see us at other events around the town, so do keep your eyes on our social media for any details.
We post archaeological facts and pictures of our work every week on our social media channels [Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn]. Check out the icons at the top and bottom of this page to follow along. Keep your eyes peeled for any updates!
