Archaeological test-pitting at Priory Place, Grange Lane, Little Dunmow, Essex, CM6 3HY: December 2015
CAT Report 901: summary
by Ben Holloway, Laura Pooley (with contributions from Stephen Benfield, Val Fryer)
Summary
An archaeological investigation by test-pitting was carried out in advance of the construction of a mange on the site of a former medieval fishpond associated with Little Dunmow Priory. Despite the potential for water-logged deposits, no significant archaeological features or finds were identified. Environmental sampling indicates that the fishponds had become overgrown and subjected to later episodes of water-logging and drying.
