CAT Report 886: summary
by Laura Pooley (with contributions from Stephen Benfield)
Summary
The site lies within the medieval settlement of Ingatestone and is close to the medieval parish church of St Edmund and St Mary. An archaeological evaluation by trial-trenching was carried out in advance of the construction of a new house to the rear of 23 High Street and this revealed four post-medieval/modern features consisting of two wall foundations, a gravel surface and a pit. They are likely to derive from of an earlier building on the site which fronted onto Stock Lane.
